Larry, 4 years old, 54 lbs, hound mix .

Sweet Larry’s story has a sad start. He was picked up on 7/27/2020 in Seguin, TX. The Animal Control Officers got a call; a man was evicted from his home and left 4 dogs. He had 8, but only took 4 with him. When the officers arrived, the owner told them to take Larry. This dogs were labeled as owner surrender. Larry and his three friends were immediately placed on the euthanasia list at the shelter. The three younger dogs were picked up by a rescue, but #33 (Larry) was left behind. He was terrified and had obvious signs of neglect and abuse. He had an old, open wound on his right hip that looked like a puncture wound, similar in size to a hog gore. In spite of all that, #33 still loves people. He is still gentle, obedient, and learned to trust very quickly. Why the name #33? Because the workers and volunteers at that particular pound call the dogs by their intake number. They do not give the dogs names or personalize them. For me, his name had to have meaning. I started thinking about the number 33 and who was associated with that number.... My choice: Larry Bird, the famous Boston Celtics basketball great. That was it. That’s how Larry got his name.

Larry is a wonderful dog. I temperament tested him and he was great. He walks perfectly on a leash, jogs in time with a runner, and has no aggressive tendencies. Even when other dogs fence charge, he ignores them. He is still occasionally hesitant, but that’s slowly being replaced with confidence. He sits on command, loves to be petted, and will sit perfectly still if you stop to talk to someone. He has amazing patience. There is no history about kids and cats. Whoever adopts him will be getting an absolutely wonderful companion!
