Become a Foster to help Save a Life

Step 1: Fill out our foster application online.

Step 2: A volunteer will contact you.

Step 3: An in home or virtual home check will be scheduled at this time. Once approved, you’ll be added to our private Facebook group for foster opportunities!

Step 4: There are a couple different ways that you will receive notifications about which dogs need fosters:

• As we bring dogs into the rescue we will post in the Facebook group seeing if anyone can foster.

• If you have a specific preference (you can foster pit bulls, puppies, dogs with special needs, etc.), our team might reach out individually to see if you're available to take a specific dog who needs a foster.

• If you are not on facebook, we will message you directly.

Step 5: After you and our team have agreed upon a dog for you to foster, we will let you know when to pick up the dog.

Step 6: You will be in constant communication with our volunteer team about next steps once you have your foster dog. It ranges anywhere from a couple of days to a couple of months, depending on your schedule and your foster dog’s needs. Our team will be in communication regarding meet and greets with potential adopters.

THINGS TO NOTE

Heart of the Underdog will provide all basic supplies (bed, food, toys, bowls etc.) to make it a cost-free experience!

Foster dogs should be kept on leash at all times outside of the home, unless they are in a privately enclosed backyard.

If you can't say goodbye to your foster dog you are more than welcome to put in an application to adopt them! We just ask that you let us know as soon as you do so that we can stop networking for a forever family.
