Alvin, 2 year old, 65 lbs, pointer/pit bull mix
Alvin was saved from a high kill shelter in Houston, Texas. The current foster has 9 other dogs in her home ranging from a small chihuahua to a 100 pound lab. Alvin does fine with everyone, but can get overexcited when there is a lot of commotion. He gets very excited when first getting out of his crate which is when he becomes overly energetic with people and other dogs around. Alvin will need slow introductions to resident dogs. He would be classified as an alpha and will need time to figure out his place in the home. He lives in a home with a 13 year old but due to his energy he would do best in a home with NO small children. Alvin does not know his own size or do well with personal space and could easily knock over a small child accidentally.
Alvin is a little skeptical of strangers...and he can jump and be mouthy. This is something the foster mom has been working with him on and he does not do it with her as she has set that boundary. He will sometimes act this way with the 13 year old. That being said, this is a freaking smart dog. He learns commands very well, can be very obedient (working on "under distractions" LOL)...but he knows sit, stay (and he will stay for about 2 minutes so far), come , heel, down. Alvin is VERY trainable!
He has a moderate level of energy but not hyper. He will run around for about 15 minutes (in the Texas heat!) and then happy to be a couch potato. He would not make the best running buddy, but would enjoy walks and playing in the backyard.
Alvin loves to snuggle and as said earlier does not respect personal space, so will be in your face to cuddle. He is house broken and crate trained. He is kenneled when the foster family is not home. He sleeps on a dog bed in the 13 yr old's room at night. He is also a watch dog and will alert you if anyone is at your house!
Alvin will be in the PNW 9/19 and we would love for him to find his forever home!
